The House of Representatives has declared its intention to overhaul the extant laws on Public Private Partnership (PPP).
The position of the House was also supported by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) on the basis that the review will accelerate the process of infrastructure development in the country.
At the public hearing on the bill for the amendment of the Public Private Partnership Regulatory Commission yesterday, Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties, Nasiru Daura, said the review has become pertinent in order to strengthen and enhance the supervisory role of the ICRC for effective private sector participation in government projects.
He said: “It is true to position that PPP arrangements, which is a major policy thrust of the Federal Government will form the bedrock of infrastructure development of the country. This bill when passed will go a long way in accelerating the process.
“The PPP arrangement is definitely a win-win situation as it enables the sharing of the skills and assets of the public and private sectors, in delivering excellent service or facility for the use of the public.
“It is thus very important to strengthen the capacity of the commission to attracting more private participation, in financing and operation of infrastructural and developmental pjects, as the bill before us intends to do.”
